Due to water levels, skills, and group needs, the itinerary is subject to change and is a best prediction. 🔵 = Intermediate track | 🔴 = Advanced track.
Day 1 · Saturday, Bienvenidos a Pucón — Arrival, Orientation & First Float🤝 All Groups
Arrive at Temuco Airport (ZCO) between 11 AM–5 PM. Airport transfers, kayak outfitting, boat sizing, and welcome orientation. Your instructors will sit down with you to talk river goals before anyone gets on the water. If time allows, we shake the jet lag loose with a quick evening run. Welcome dinner by the fire — appetizers, provisions, drinks, and river talk. Then decompress in the riverside hot tub or cool pool under the Andes sky.
Day 2 · Sunday, Skill Assessments, First Runs & River Goals🤝 All Groups — AM
Morning outfitting, kayak coaching orientation, and skill assessment on the water. Instructors observe, calibrate, and confirm track placement before splitting groups for afternoon runs.
🔵 Intermediate — Pending Levels
Middle Trancura to Wave or Lower Liucura (III to III+) — controlled moving water that reveals your current read-and-run instincts and gives instructors a clear picture of where to take you next.
🔴 Advanced — Pending Levels
Liucura Wave to Quelhue or Lower Trancura — bigger water, faster decisions. Coaches assess line selection, commitment, and eddy technique before the week builds.
Evening
Riverside hot tub and cool pool. Appetizers and debrief — your instructors walk you through the day's key takeaways and preview tomorrow's focus.
Day 3 · Monday, Kayak Class Progressions + River Development
🔵 Intermediate
AM — Kayak Theory + Lower Rio Trancura (III–III+) — warm-up lap, eddyline work, and reading river personality. Clean linking: the goal is to string a full run together without a single reactive stroke.
PM — Upper Rio Trancura (III, IV, IV+ with portageables) — full run at higher consequence. Boofing opportunities, aggressive eddies, and your first real commitment to a line.
🔴 Advanced
AM — Kayak Theory + Lower Rio Trancura (III–III+) — warm-up lap at pace. Tinkerbell eddyline: the aggressive feature we lap to teach momentum maintenance. Miss the stroke and Tinkerbell spins you out.
PM — Upper Rio Trancura (III, IV, IV+) — full run. Every boof, every eddy line, every committing move reviewed and coached.
Evening
Riverside hot tub and cool pool. Appetizers and daily feedback loop.
Day 4 · Tuesday, Big Water Fun Day — Rio San Pedro: Both Groups — Full Day
Early departure — packed breakfasts, coffee thermoses, and lunches to go. The drive itself is half the experience: volcanoes, lakes, and rivers scrolling past the windows before you drop into one of Chile's most celebrated big-water rivers. Rio San Pedro is glorious — on-the-fly play waves, haystacks, boily eddylines, and giant rolling rapids in turquoise glacially-fed water.
🔵 Intermediate
Optional inflatable kayaks available for maximum fun. Take conservative lines through the volume, read the big features, and experience moving water at a completely new scale. The river does the work — your job is to stay in the moment and find your line.
🔴 Advanced
Optional half-slices welcome. Catch every wave, go for downriver freestyle, and work every eddyline. San Pedro rewards commitment — the more you put in, the more the river gives back.
Day 5 · Wednesday, Recovery + Multi-Sport Options + Tour de Pucón + Culinary Adventure
Mid-week recovery day — an essential part of the progression model. Rest the body, absorb the week, and come back stronger for the second half.
Multi-Sport Option
Hot springs soak in the volcanic thermal pools, or lace up for the Canyon del Turbio hike through one of the region's most dramatic gorges.
AM River Option
Morning river run available depending on group preference and energy — TBD with instructors the night before.
🍦 Tour de Pucón & Culinary Day
The full Pucón experience: artisan ice cream, craft beer, the beach, the peninsula, and the market. We'll put together a curated list of the retreat's favorites. The group meets up at a favorite local restaurant for dinner and drinks — one of the best nights of the week.
Day 6 · Thursday, Maichin Canyon or Rio Fuy + Salto Blanco 36-Footer; Option A — Maichin Canyon + Cervecería Puesco
Option A — Salto Blanco is 36 feet of clean beautiful park and huck waterfall. Want to hit your first big waterfall, capture GoPro footage, toss your paddle or go freestyle. This is the drop with both safety and media setup. And a trail rope convenient to lap the drop.
— lower Fuy canyon sections (III–III+): accessible lines, clean drops, and the jaw-dropping scenery that makes this river unforgettable.
Option B — Puerto Neltume Crafts Market + Rio Fuy
Road trip to the Neltume crafts market, then drop into the Fuy — three canyons, exceptional scenery, and two very different experiences depending on your level.
🔵 Intermediate — Lower Fuy: pristine pool-drop character, big clear pools between rapids, and the kind of river you don't want to end.
🔴 Advanced — option to put on a lower section of the Middle Fuy: three additional kilometers of spectacular boofing action and committing rapids before joining the Lower.
Option C — Maichin canyon run (III–IV+): committing lines through the tighter upper sections, creeking precision, and decision-making. Lots of slots and boofing. Afterwards: Cervecería Puesco appetizers — Chile's award-winning Andean craft brewery sits right on the Trancura headwaters. Cold beer, mountain views, stoke.
Day 7 · Friday, Upper Trancura or Upper Palguin + Massage + Farewell Asado
🔵 Intermediate
AM/PM — If you're ready to step up, intermediates take on the Upper Trancura or intro laps of Upper Palguin (IV) with full instructor support. This is your graduation run — the move from "solid III" to your first real IV. Coaches are on every line.
🔴 Advanced
AM/PM — Upper Palguin (IV) laps. Double Drop: run it, climb the ladder, review the video, repeat until the line is dialed. Coaching focus: boof timing, line commitment, and the Art of Kayak Flight — maximizing air and control on clean drops. Want the Double Header? We'll make it happen.
Evening — Farewell Asado
Massage available — your body has earned it. Then the whole group gathers for the farewell asado: fire, food, pisco, and the stories that only make sense to people who were there. The best night of the week, every week.
Day 8 · Saturday, "We Hate Goodbyes."🤝 All Groups Pack & Airport Transfers
AM — Packing, gear return, and one last walk through Pucón for souvenirs and coffee.

Are you ready to level up to the next kayaking skill set and rivers? Whether you are an intermediate 🔵 or advanced 🔴 kayaker, the Retreat provides expert instructors, logistics, and transportation to river sections matched and separately dedicated to both tracks — so everyone is challenged, safe, and progressing.
Meals, lodging, and off-river experiences are shared — riverside hot tubs and cool pools, cocktails, Pucón town, trekking, and recovery days. Some river days share the same river system, with each group paddling sections suited to their level. On travel days like Rio San Pedro, both groups ride together and each paddles their own lines on the same river.
The Pucon Kayak Retreat is a student-centric whitewater program where instruction is the experience.
Each day has a clear learning focus so guests don't just run rivers — they understand what is actually making them better. The goal is simple: daily kayak class instruction, real progression, visible improvement.
Guests are measured by how clearly they can recognize and apply what they are learning — not by performance or style.
